A few months ago my aunt came across several linens my grandmother hand crocheted over 50 years ago. At a loss of what to do with them, I told her I had a beautiful use for them. I have creatively incorporated their texture in my ceramic charcuterie/cheese boards.

My grandmother passed away over 30 years ago. I often think of the influence she had on my life. She had a unique and creative spirit. She gave me my love of antiques and the Maine Coast. I am so thrilled I can create pieces for our family that will carry a little part of her every time we use or display them.

What do you give to a father who has been there from the beginning, the man who formed you, guided you, and molded you for his 85th birthday?

A week ago as I was having my quiet time with God, I prayed that He would anoint my hands through my ceramics to glorify Him. Two days later my father called. He shared a sermon that he had heard based on the “Potters House” - Jeremiah 18:1-4. He asked me if I would teach him the process of “Throwing Pottery”. What an incredible opportunity and intimate gift I would be able to share with him.

For 3 hours we created ceramic pieces and had the luxury of time. He wanted to start out BIG but I said “Dad, God wants you to start out small”, it takes patience, obedience pressure, trimming and time to create something beautiful. That is the whole meaning behind the story of “The potters House”. I was so touched by our time together. A tender moment. He requested it for his birthday gift, but he has always been Gods gift to me. I am so humbly grateful to have him for a father. Happy Birthday Dad…You are MY king of the world.
